About Laser Fusion Solutions

PhD-led, sensor-driven, and built for the LPBF work that doesn't fit the standard production playbook.

We started LFS to lower the barrier of entry to LPBF for small shops, university labs, and government programs that need real machine and material flexibility — not just another sealed production printer. A decade of metal-AM machine, sensor, and material work goes into every project.

The founders

Two PhDs. One operating practice.

Dr. Chris Barrett, CEO and Co-founder of Laser Fusion Solutions

Dr. Chris Barrett

CEO · Co-founder · Government Business POC

Ph.D., Materials Science and Engineering. A decade developing materials, machines, and sensors in the metal LPBF space. Earlier roles surfaced the gap LFS was built to close — small shops and research groups locked out of the parameter, sensor, and material flexibility they need. Novel-material experience spans GRX-810, tungsten, lunar regolith, and beyond.

Dr. John Middendorf

Co-founder · Sensor & Machine Lead

Ph.D., Electrical Engineering. A decade in LPBF, including multi-material LPBF, with a sensor research background in terahertz photoconductive systems. Formerly Director of Additive at the Ohio State University Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME). Experience taking machines and sensors from TRL 1 through TRL 9.
